The Fancy Neighbourhoods

Every city we have been to in South America has a couple of fancy neighbourhoods where the rich live.  In Lima they are Miraflores and Barranco.  Miraflores is the nicer of the two and it is where a lot of tourists chose to stay.  From the bus station, there is a nice walk along a plaza and park to a malecon. The malecon itself, sitting on a cliff, is beautiful with great views of the beach and ocean below.  There are many tourists and locals just hanging around and enjoying the views.  A short walk along the malecon leads to the Larcomar mall.  This mall is small but it is built into the cliff and has a lot of high-end stores and some nice restaurants with great views.  After a having a delicious lunch at the mall, we walked down to the beach and watched the surfers as they were ending their day.  I would like to try surfing one day but the water in Lima is absolutely too cold for that shit.

Another afternoon, we visited Barranco which is similar to Miraflores.  It has a nice park that leads down to the beach but unlike Miraflores, there isn't much happening at the beach here.  However the park is lined with lots of restaurants and has a relaxed bohemian feel.  We didn't spend too much time here  but it was nice to come for an afternoon.  It has been overcast and cloudy ever since we came to Lima so maybe if the weather was warmer we would have spent more time here.

PS.  How many Peruvians does it take to change a light bulb?  Apparently five, one to change the bulb, two to hold the ladder, one to just watch and another to supervise.
